A Brief History

It All Began in:
​
1930 when the local council purchased the land in cooperation with the Miners Welfare to provide a place of recreation for the local community.The Park was officially opened on 4th April 1931 by the Lord Mayor in office Cllr Miller J.P.
​
The New Park Amenities
​
The park tried to provided for all age groups and activities included a Cricket Pitch and pavillion, tennis courts, and a fabulous bowling green and pavillion. The children were thrilled by the new play area and the paddling pool.
If you were not inclined to sporting activities you could take a serene stroll along the meandering paths or sit and enjoy the well tended flower and rose beds.
