It All Began in:
1930 when the local council purchased the land in cooperation with the Miners Welfare to provide a place of recreation for the local community. The Park was officially opened on 4th April 1931 by the Lord Mayor in office Cllr Miller J.P.
The New Park Amenities
The park tried to provided for all age groups and activities included a Cricket Pitch and pavillion, tennis courts, and a fabulous bowling green and pavillion. The children were thrilled by the new play area and the paddling pool.
If you were not inclined to sporting activities you could take a serene stroll along the meandering paths or sit and enjoy the well tended flower and rose beds.
